Its fine.  :)
They had a son called Peter who was killed in World War 1. And their daughter-in-law died in 1937. The children I know the names of were Ann, Peter, William, Jessie, Margaret, John, James, Alexander. I am unsure of the ninth one though. Does it cost money to look on the index? If it doesn't, do you think you could attempt to find Peter Geddes on the index?

Hi Greg

We've searched the free indexes -  (you get a wee bit more confirmation of the free search results by viewing the Index for 1 credit, but in this case it won't be any use only doing that)  - only by buying the certificate on SP (costs the aforesaid 1 credit to get to Index and then 5 credits to view/dowload certificate )  , can you find the information you're asking for on Elspet . By googling & searching internet you might find someone who has  posted the information on, for example a web page, family tree, Ancestry tree etc - but then you'd need to know they got the info from the actual certs.

Espeth was in Rathven in 1901 - so possibly she stayed there and died there 38 years later.

Re: Peter GEDDES
The 1901 show him as born abt 1855 Peterhead, Aberdeenshire
Just wondering what reason you have for thinking his parents might be Alexander GEDDES and Ann SMITH.

Looking at the list of his & Elspet's children in the 1881, 1891 & 1901 Census:  -  applying the Scottish naming pattern conventions, I'd be more inclined to think his father was named Willaim and his mother Margaret?

Cheers

I wasn't 100% sure of his parents. Peter was born in Portgordon so I was told and they were the only ones who had a Peter Geddes in Portgordon. If this one is right, then now I know what I should search for. Also I was told his birth year was about 1851.
Could you please give me the URL for the index, as I am unable to find it on the website.

Hi Greg

Hmm, there certainley were earlier Peter GEDDES' of Portgordon, fishermen as seen on SP Will Section (free search)

One is always suspicious of the Census transcripts taken from A****
Peter's pob in 1901 - Portgordon, mistranscribed as "Peterhead" wouldn't be out of the realms of possibility  :)  ;)

I think the purchase of the marriage certificate is the best way to go, since this Port Gordon / Peterhead issue now arises. That and the naming pattern of the children - per the Census.

I do see 9 children, (b abt years as follows):
William 1876
Peter 1878
Jessie 1879
Alexander 1881
John 1883
Margaret (Maggie) 1885
James 1888
Elspet 1890
Charles 1897 b Enzie

(Big gap Elspet to Charles -  you say there was a daughter named Ann too? Did she fit in that gap perhaps. Or maybe Charles was really a Grandson?)

Cheers

Hi Greg

To use the free index search facilities on SP, you first need to register with them - which is also free.

Ann was born in 1874/1875 and married George Alexander Thain. I found that only one was born in the 1890's so I am unsure if Charles was a grandson or not.

Thanks for that. Since Elspet was born about 1853, she died about 86 years old, which is a good age. After you register do you search the site for "facilities"?
I'm guessing Peter Geddes was dead when Elspet Crockett died.
