Stuck finding Alfred Wright
« on: Saturday 19 December 09 06:13 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I am new to this.  Per my late fathers South Australian birth cetificate, his father, Alfred John Wright was born Kingshorpe Northamptonshire (approx. June 1865).
When I searched on findmypast.co.uk, birth index I found 4 possible Alfred Wrights, however the subregisters/districts shown were:
Edmonton
Leek
Wycombe, and
Stepney.
I am in Australia, and do not know if any of these locations could be close to Kingsthorpe in Northamtonshire.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
Daryl

Hi and Welcome

Do you know what year the Wright family came out to Australia from the UK?

What was the name of Alfred John Wright's wife and did they marry in the UK or overseas?

Wendy

Hi Wendy
My grandfather died years before I was born, and my knowledge of him and my grandmother was passed onto me verbally by my late father.

Alfred joined the Royal Navy as a teenager, however I can find no matching records on the National Archives website.
Left the navy and ended up in Australia, on the Orlando??
Met and married my grandmother in South Australia.  She was of German origin.
My father had told me Alfred was born at sea (Irish Sea), however on dad's birth certificate it says he was born in Kingsthorpe.
My father said Alfred had a Scottish accent?

All a bit of a mystery with alot of conflicting information?

Regards
Daryl

Hi Daryl

Certainly a mystery.  I've looked on the UK census but can't see a suitable candidate.

I did see this website that shows the time frame of the HMS Orlando which could be the ship that you refered to

Do you have access to your grandparents marriage cert?

What was your father's name?  I'm only asking incase there is a naming pattern.

Wendy

Thanks for the link to the Orlando.  This may give time frame for when he came to Australia.

I will try to get my grandparents' marriage certificate from South Australia.  This may give more information?

My dad's name was Kenneth George Wright.

Thanks for your help.  I will post additional information when available from the marriage certificate.

I forgot to mention in last post, that my father's elder (not the oldest) brother was also named Alfred.

Hi Ambly

My grandmother's maiden name was Ida Mary Przibilla.  Per my fathers birth certificate she was born in Farrells Flat, South Australia in about 1875, and they were married in 1899.

They settled in Peterborough, South Australia where my father was born.  Both died in Adelaide, South Australia.

I understand that, Peterborough is also a town in Northamptonshire.
