I think we all suspected that they were behind schedule with the 1901 Census but, bless their hearts, they will have the additional transcriptions online before the end of the year.

Aren't they the best?

Dara.

Indeed.  Despite the frustrating delays and the host of indexing errors, it's still worth acknowledging that this is a terrific facility.  The image quality is second to none.

It has defiantly been worth the wait for the 1911, just hope the 1901 is as good. Fingers crossed ::)

The new site is up.
It's pretty good but there are still some coding errors.  But you can do interesting statistical searches now - like how many unmarried head of households were women, etc.
I also looked at some of the transcription errors I previously reported and only one is fixed. :(

You have to hand it to them, they know how to put the british 1911 to shame.

Just keep checking National Archives website under Future Plans- today's message says 'between early and mid-2010.'

I was at a seminar at the National Library in Dublin yesterday when Cartriona Crowe of the National Archives gave the latest update on the digitisation of the 1901 census.

It seems there have been some problems (no surprises, there!) but the records will go online before middle of June and they will be released in one fell swoop, not in tranches as the 1911, and with full search facilities under all fields. However, in order to meet that schedule, the records will be released without a full check having been performed. So we should expect more initial errors and omissions than the 1911 had.

In other words, the 'early' 2010 of the original estimate of release was optimistic. The 'mid' 2010 might just  be met!
