Hi
I believe that "Lives and Other Tenure" refers to the length of a lease. It was common in Ireland to lease land for the length of  lives of three specified people. Other Tenure could be 21 Years which was common or even year to year which was also common.

Regards

That's interesting - I know that leases often had varying lengths. The one I particularly found amusing was "Prince Regent, Duke of York and Princess of Wales" so I was thunking the crown might have had some interest in the property.

Regarding the above chronology, my grandfather was Francis Marion Millsap. His son, Ronald Julian Millsap, is my father. I'm having a problem with the date of his death here...my dad was born on Jan. 26, 1912. That means Francis could not have died in 1906.
I have his family traced back to William Millsaps, as you have, and would love to exchange information.
If you are interested, feel free to contact me.

According to several online tree Francis Marion Millsap, father of Ronald J. Millsap, was born 1878 in Georgia and died in 1968 in Florida. Francis Marion Millsap listed as son of Marion William Millsaps & Cordelia Wilson.

So,. looks like the one mentioned by dfwdallas might not be your grandfather.

That's right, he's not my grandfather. However, dfwdallas has the wrong Francis Marion Millsap. The one I mentioned is correct. I have painstakingly done my research, plus my cousin is still alive and we've discussed it many times. After that, Ronald Julian Millsap, my father, then my brother, Richard Lee Millsap.

Thanks for replying.

No, they have the lease until "Prince Regent, Duke of York and Princess of Wales"  die...

You could have a lease "for as long as Obama is President", when he's gone so is your lease.. nothing to do with Obama!!

Rose, I think you might be confused?

I haven't tried researching all the Millsap connections but briefly-

Thomas James Millsaps (1782 Rowan Co., N.C.-1870 Fightingtown, Ga.) m. Mary Sutton
1.   John D Millsaps (1820 Haywood Co, NC-1901 Blue Ridge, Ga.) m. Martha Dilbeck
        1.   Marion William Millsaps (1854 Gilmore, Ga.-1910 Cleveland, Tenn.) m Cordelia Wilson
                1.   Francis Marion Millsap (1878 Ga.-1968 Fla.)
                        1.   Ronald J. Millsap
2.   Francis Marion Millsaps** (1834 Macon Co., N.C.-1906 Deer, Ark.)  m. Sarah Scott

Francis Marion Millsaps**- this is the one mentioned in the above pedigree.

P.S. please don't think you need to quote the entire post you are replying to- sometimes it makes your post far, far too long and more difficult to follow  :)

No, I'm not confused at all. My grandfather married Edna J. Prince, who was my grandmother.
His name was Francis Marion Millsap, but he is not the one first mentioned. I am certain of this because my father, R. J. Millsap traveled to Florida in 1968 to attend his father's funeral.

I thought my last post was clear enough but obviously not so one last try.

Thomas James Millsaps (1782 Rowan Co., N.C.-1870 Fightingtown, Ga.) m. Mary Sutton

                1.   Francis Marion Millsap (1878 Ga.-1968 Fla.)
                        1.   Ronald J. Millsap
2.   Francis Marion Millsaps** (1834 Macon Co., N.C.-1906 Deer, Ark.)  m. Sarah Scott

Francis Marion Millsaps**- this is the one mentioned in the above pedigree.

Rose- there are at least 2 Francis Marion Millsaps in your family tree. The one I've just highlighted in blue is your grandfather who died in 1968.
The other (highlighted in red is his great uncle died in 1906. He is the one mentioned in reply #2.

I figured it out. It's MARION FRANCIS that was born in 1834 and died in 1906. It gets confusing. Night.
Thanks for your patience. The way he wrote it really stumped me, lol!
