Golding Family
« on: Sunday 27 December 09 23:05 GMT (UK) »
I am searching for info on my Golding Family from Bucks.

In the mid to late 1800's they were living in the Farnham Royal/Burnham area. Prior to that they were in the Old Windsor area.

In the early 1900's some of them immigrated to New Zealand where I was born.

So far I have traced the Goldings back to Daniel Golding born 1801 somewhere in Bucks and died 1852 in Eton reg district. He married Ann Taylor in Windsor in 1832.
Any info would be appreciated very much.

Hi

The 1851 Census shows Daniel was born in Hedgerley, Buckinghamshire and this parish records are on the IGI.

There is no Daniel Golding only a Caroline bp.14/6/1801, dau. of Elizabeth.   However, doing a search just on Daniel brought up 1 entry for whom no surname is recorded i.e.

Daniel b.23/5/1800, bp.15/6/1800 Hedgerley, son of Henry and Elizabeth.   Could this be your Daniel I wonder?   There is also a plain Sarah b.20/10/1802, bp.24/10.1802, dau. of Henry and Elizabeth.   I think a check needs to be made in the Hedgerley parish records.

Hi Annette - Thanks for your reply. Hedgerley sounds very good as that is where a lot of the family were born.

I had found the mother of Daniel some time ago and it was Elisabeth. So this Henry and Elisabeth sounds good also. Sometimes I find that when a child is registered in the mothers name it is because the father has died before the childs birth. Problem is then I don't know if the mother is using the married name or not.
So you are saying that there is a Henry and Elizabeth Golding who had two children, Daniel and Caroline. If this is so then these would be my 4xGreat Grandparents and there has been a Caroline in every generation. My Grandmather was Thirza Caroline Golding.
I would presume that Henry (also in almost every generation) was born about 1775.
This sounds all very positive - Evan

Hi Evan

I'm saying this could be a possibility but you would have to get this checked against original parish records - I googled and found that the Buckinghamshire Family History Society Online Shop have a CD of Hedgerley baptisms/marriages/deaths 1539 to 1901 which might well be worth purchasing - cost £6.75.

Since you did not know Daniel was born in Hedgerley I'm assuming that you don't have details of the 1851 census which are:

1851 Census - Cullum Green, Burnham, Bucks (as Goulding)

Daniel    51     Farm Laborer         b. Hedgerley, Bucks.
Ann        40                                   b. Old Windsor, Bucks.
Caroline 14      Scholar                 b. Burnham, Bucks.
Eliza 12                "                                 "
Ann    9                "                                 "
Daniel 7               "                                 "
Henry 4                "                                 "
Charlotte 1
                                         "
Ref. HO107 - 1718 - 668 - 13

Good luck.

Hi Annette - This is really good info, thank you very much.
I have been watching for a different spelling, which you have found.

I am sure this is the same family as I know Ann was 10 years younger than Daniel and again the childrens names are the same as in previous generations.

I will endeavour to purchase the CD you speak of. I have other relations in that area as well. I have searched Hedgerley before but only on Hugh Wallis IGI which only goes up to about 1873.

Since you sent me the info on Daniels parents, Henry and Elizabeth, I have found that she died in 1852 but cannot find a death date for Henry or their marrige as yet.
Thank you for your assistance thus far, it has been most beneficial - Evan

I lived in Hedgerley 1958 -1980. There was a Major Golding living there in a fine Georgian house. He was a real gentleman. Golding is not a common name, must be related to you, or so I would think.
