Hi Nudge,

Sorry no help with this. There are no entries in SA BMD's for Jacob or in the BISA for James or Jacob. There is a marriage

James VIVIAN 38 single father not recorded = WALLIS Mary Ann 21 single father not recorded 17 Aug 1848 Holy Trinity Church Adelaide. 2 276. There are  several children born in SA to James/James Peter VIVIAN and Mary Ann WALLACE as you are aware.

James Peter died 8 Sep 1890 Nr Mt Pleasant Dist Tal 188 267 He was aged 85 years, relative not recorded. Res Nr Mt Pleasant.

There is no baptism that I can spot for a James Peter VIVIAN in Cornwall.

Cheers Kris  :)

Hi Nudge and Kris,

The James Vivian who arrived on the Claudine was a James WILLIAM Vivian and he came from Dorset.  Do you think this is the right one?

Hi Andcarred,

Good find.  ;D Doesn't sound like it, does it. Hadn't looked from that side. Without the different middle name, if Nudge is convinced his chap was from Cornwall, it seems unlikely. I looked at Cornwall and could not find a James Peter (though there were several just James baptised in the right era. Guess we wait on Nudge.

Cheers Kris  :)

Located the Dec 2006 AFTC magazine. It appears that Jacob VIVIAN was arrested under the alias  George James FORRESTER. His father James William VIVIAN had walked out on the family about the time James Peter VIVIAN appeared in South Oz, and the researcher has found no trace of him since.

J. Peter VIVIAN was supposedly Cornish. J. William VIVIAN was convicted in neighbouring Dorset, but there is no mention of his origin.

It is possible that the two James VIVIAN are one and the same, but I guess we will never know.

Hi Nudge,

George James FORRESTER is 'supposedly' the name of my Gt-Gt-Gt-Grandfather. I say supposedly because the only information I can find for him is a marriage to Rebecca Gardner in Queanbeyan in 1871. He was arrested in Tamworth under the alias James Edward FORRESTER in 1876. I have no birth information for him other than from a birth certificate from one of his children and that lists 1843.

I don't trust that his name *was* George James FORRESTER at this point and i'm investigating any potential leads which brings me to your last post. Could you perchance let me know where this arrest took place and any other information that came with the AFTC 2006 issue?

For all I know i'm giving you a bum steer but he was arrested in Tamworth and brought back to Queanbeyan on charges of larceny and bigamy. There's plenty of newspaper articles about the court appearances of which one officer says "previous questionable history".

I found the Dec 2006 AFTC copy featuring the VIVIAN/FORRESTER enigma as a cover story in the magazine section of Ballina Library. if you are in the Richmond-Tweed area, you can reserve it for loan. Otherwise, your local FHS is bound to have a copy. Unlikely I will get the time to answer your question in the immediate future, as I am now contending with a 5 day old daughter.

Cheers

Hi Nudge, I too am a descendant of the VIVIAN line

Researching a convict ancestor..

I did find this on Trove so it seems that even After remarrying James could not keep away from cow stealing.

Hope this helps with more family information
