Newsboys Home Everton

Could some one help me please! I am trying to find my great grandfather on the 1891 census, he was Jonathan Lees born 1875 Liverpool, I have come across Jamathen Lees born 1877 Liverpool, address Newsboys Home Everton Road. Does any body know what type of home this was and if so are there any records left?

Can't help re: the home but the entry looks to be the correct one as he is not with father Jonathan in 1891 (who has re-married to Elizabeth)

It's full title was 'Newsboys' Home, and Home for Friendless and Destitute Boys'. It is listed under Charitable Institutions and Homes, so it would have been set up by a private charity and not run by church or corporation.

You should ask at Liverpool Record Office if they have the records, or the Charity Commission to see if it was taken over by another charity that still exists.

 The information you stated are my family, so you think I could be onto a winner then?
I am planning to go up to Liverpool in the next 3 months or so, can I email the records office to see if they have this information or do I need to turn up in person, sorry to be so vague but much as I have done a ton of research most of it has been done on the internet now I want to put meat on my family bones.

 I'm trying to find a relative THOMAS GEORGE DAVIES b. 1902 who was there from about 1905 when he was orphaned until about 1913.

I cant find the Newsboys in the 1911 census.

Any help welcomed.

Was Thomas born in Liverpool or elsewhere?  Who were his parents?

Rootschat do not allow 1911 lookups so we can only possibly give you general guidance.

Thanks! I have checked with Lpool RO. They dont have any records for Newsboys. I suspect it may have been taken over by another charity at some point. It doesnt show up on he 1911 census.

THOMAS GEORGE DAVIES was born in Liverpool on 10 April 1902. We know for definite his moher was called Ann and his grandmother was ELLENOR. The name of his father isnt clear. THOMAS GEORGE always referred to him as WALTER. However, there is no trace of a birth of TG with Walter and Ann as parents. There is though a birth of a Thomas George Davies on the exact date with Ann Davies and William Bridger Davies living at 14 Hamilton Terrace. I suspect this is the parents. They had a daughter Lucy who died as a toddler in a house accident. TG's parents both died about 1905. TG was then put in the Newsboys Home until his teens when he went to sea.
