Goodhope (? farm) Johnstone COMPLETED
« on: Saturday 02 January 10 22:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi all,

I am looking for anyone in the area of Johnstone who might know where Goodhope, possibly Goodhope farm, is.

My relatives James and Janet Campbell are living here on the 1891 census

Thanks

hi,

Goodhope farm is part of the Annandale Estate owned by the Earl of Annandale.  It is near the hamlet of St Anns in Johnstone Parish.  As well as Goodhope Farm there was also Goodhope School which only closed in the 1970s and is now a private house.  If you have a look on a site such as oldmaps you will see where abouts in the parish it actually is.  Goodhope farmhouse has been empty for a number of years but is currently being renovated.

Goodhope School was used as the gamekeepers house for a few years after closing in early 1970s I do know there was a gamekeeper there in 1980s there was tenants in there for a while after I think but as previously said was empty for a while.
