Murray Family
« on: Sunday 03 January 10 14:41 GMT (UK) »
Hi...im trying to find out more info on my Murray side of the family but have come to a bit of a dead end.

My great grandfather was Arthur James Murray year of birth - 1906....no idea where he was born, but died in Tayport.

He was a leading aircraftsman based in leuchars..and married Jemima Anderson Lawson Ross in November 1934 in Dundee

I know that his parents names were William Murray and Elizabeth Gilruth..but i dont have any of there DOB's
William Murray was a marine engineer, I do know that there was some connection with South Africa at some point?

Could anyone help me trace where Arthur Murray was born or where William & Elizabeth came from as Im not having any luck at all !!

thanks

Hi cheekywan

Have a look here
http://www.gla.ac.uk/departments/scottishwayofbirthanddeath/marriage/ for the explanation of marriage by Sherrif's Warrant

diddymiller gave you Arthurs death .... as 1967 age 60 in Gorgan.  This should read FORGAN.  It's a cluster of farms, houses and cottages as well as an old schoolhouse between St Michaels and Newport here in in Fife.

As diddymiller also said, 'info is available on SP - indexes free but records pay to view'

I hope this has helped

I can't easily see an entry for parents' marriage or mother's death in Scotland either   :-\

Mi miss s

I've just had a quick look on ScotlandPeople and there are TWO Arthur Murray births in 1907.  Sometimes if the birth was late in December it wouldn't be registered until the following January.  It could be worth your while spending 1 Credit to see the results as both (should) give the parents' names.

I've also had a look for a marriage for Elizabeth Gilruth 1855-1907 but nothing there.  Are you sure of the spelling?  There are over 100 men called William Murray who married an Elizabeth though!
