Tracing 1st WW officer's history
« on: Monday 14 March 05 18:37 GMT (UK) »
I am looking for ways to prove or disprove that the Lt R P Kirkwood of the KOSB who was killed at the assault on Polderhoek Chateau near Gheluvelt (Ypres Rd) on the 4th October 1917, was in fact the son of John William Kirkwood also of the King's Own Scottish Borderers and its Co Sgt Mjr. I know that John and Mary Kirkwood had a son - Robert P Kirkwood who was born in Alexandria in 1889 but I have not so far thought of a way to prove that the two are one and the same. He would be my great uncle. The PRO has no records of Lt R P Kirkwood. Any ideas?

Try the Great War Forum.  I've found the members to be very helpful.

Hi

If you know where the family were living in 1917, you could try looking at the local war memorial and also the local newspapers to see if anything is mentioned there.

Best wishes
