I've put an add on the Southend Echo website.  Hopefully someone will see it!

Any other ideas on how I can try and locate these people?
Johnson, Crankshaw, Burdett, Shaw, Dawson/Dulson, Whitebread/Whitbread, Drane, Hyett, Holtaway, Thompson, Bodell, Livermore, Gee, Vernon, Smith......the list goes on....and on...and on....

Yes, thanks LM.  I have got census returns for Edward & Jemima from their marriage up to 1911.

Hi,

I've just seen this notice, after replying to a post on Facebook about someone similar.

We both knew Len Holtaway as neighbours here in Hockley, where he lived until he died.

We only knew his cousin, Brian, who presumably was Len's Executor.  Len used to refurbish magnificent old Japanese swords (kept in his fridge for safety!), which presumably Brian sold on.  He also had a wonderful collection of books on the Far East; every wall in his room was covered with books.  I didn't notice anything in the Echo, unfortunately.

Sorry I haven't replied earlier, again! Len was a good neighbour; I think he arrived in Folly Lane, at No. 15, a little time before us in 1976. He lived there until his death, from a stroke. I don't think he took his tablets regularly, if at all, because we found loads of pills in a drawer, I remember.  Unfortunately I don't know anything about his grass track days or if his other cousins are still alive.  We only saw Brian, and maybe someone else, I can't remember who that was.  He had masses of books all round his front room on the Far East.  If we can recall anything else we'll let you know.  Best wishes, Carole.
