Thank you nottsgirl for the additional information about Mary.I can never leave anyone in my tree unaccounted for ( not that I am always successful) I had found Mary's previous marriage and her children but no sign of Mary. This is another avenue to explore.

nottsgirl, also thank you for the link to Nottingham University, a useful site if your ancestors were from Nottinghamshire.

Thank you all for your help especially for taking the time to give me the information of Richard and Anna’s children.
Trying to understand the facts of Richard Sulley and Anna Sutton make this 83 year old mans head spin. BUT

#1 Is this Richard Sulley the husband of Elizabeth Hoyles and Anna Sutton and Mary Dodsley all the same person?

#2 It seems the last child of Richard and Elizabeth was born 1794 then the first child of Richard and Anna was born 1796 and the last Edward was born 1810. Then Richard and Mary were married 1813.

#3 I know Edward Sulley was born 15 Sept 1810 but the baptism was recorded in 1815. I do not know for sure what this means? Where was the mother Anne?

#4 I have some notes made by a Great Aunt and distant cousin discussing their Sulley family in 1912. There are notes about Richard and Anna’s children but nothing of his parents. There is mention of a James Darrell Sully in their notes many years ago going to France researching the French Sullys. Circa 1572.

Ken

PS: If anyone is interested I have an original 8x10 picture of each, Richard Sulley Jr b. 1799 and wife Elizabeth Denman b. 1806 taken 1860. On back lists Richard as born 31 May 1799 and on the back of Elizabeth says age 54 years. Have some of pictures their children also. Would be happy to send a copy to anyone.

To Sulley descendant.
I can answer one of your questions. The Richard Sulley who married Elizabeth Hoyles also married Mary Doddsley nee Cullen. He married Mary about 6 months after the death of Elizabeth in 1813.I am pretty sure this is a different Richard than the one who married Ann. I have read some of his will because it was part of a court case, he mentioned 4 children Thomas Ann Elizabeth and Richard and his wife Mary,he died July 1819.
I have my Richard's parents as Thomas and Mary Mellors/milner also but I could be wrong on this.I have sent for his will which may be helpful.

I received a copy of the will.It told me very little more, except he left some money to the four children of Mary from her previous marriage. The will covers his estate and how he wants it divided between his children from his marriage to Elizabeth, these being Thomas, Ann, Elizabeth and Richard.

Thank you so very much for your letting me know the contents of the will.
Where did the Richard & Anna disappear, and where were they from? Their children were educated and some are well known. Their son (my ancestor) James Francis Sulley came to America in 1838. I have more on him  and family than most anyone of that period.
Thank you,
Ken
