Zarb Alexandria to England

I wondered if anyone would be so kind as to advise where I might start my inquiries.

I know a Joseph Barb came to this country.

I have a feeling he was invited to work by a company in the UK, so probably was not a resident at first.

Joseph Barb was born in Alexandria Egypt (I believe) and was British due to Alexandria being a British Protectorate. He was born in approx 1910.

The question I have been asked is did he come to Britain in 1929 and stay or did he come later?

he certainly died here around 1960, so its a question perhaps of checking when he decided he would stay and not return to Alexandria, so I would assume a formal declaration of that wish was necessary?

Any advice would help please.

I have checked the catalog online for the Archives at kew and come up with the following. They say I have to visit in person to see it.

It appears to be something relating to a Seaman?

He was not a Seaman so wonder if its just a co incidence. Don't know if anyone can advise on what it actually is as he was not a Seaman or Merchant seaman but a draftsman designer/Engineer/Inventor.

Not quite sure what all this means and may be a red herring?

Being a Maltese born in Egypt and having the hobby of collecting information on Maltese of Egypt, I am interested in your posting.
I must ask what connection/relationship you have with the Zarb guy you mention?
I do have a few Zarb families listed in my collection of over 900 pages of Maltese of Egypt family trees, do you any more about this Zarb fellow, such as name of his wife, or his parents?

You were very helpfull with my family in the past on a Maltese site 

I think you even tracked down my cousins Telephone number in Perth 

I am hoping to find out some info for my mother as follows.

She would like to know if Joseph Zarb (Possibly born Alexandria Egypt of Maltese parantage) came to england in 1929.

We know he did come here (and stayed) but we wondered in what year.

He was invited here by I believe the Rolls Royce company or an aviation manufacturer as he was a bit of an inventor/designer and was doing something with "Clutches" so I believe


Anyway he decided to stay. There is a reason why my Mum wants to know why he came here in that year as that may affect other things.

He married Ursilia Azzopardi (In Alexandria) and was born around 1910 I believe.

He had a Daughter Georgette (Or Georgian to be precise) a son I believe Spirodioni (?) and a Daughter Annie.

Annie married a "Taki Sayannos" (?) in I think Alexandria in Egypt (whose son you helped track down in Perth...)

Spiro married a Lilliana LLoyd (?) in I think Alexandria also.

I believe my cousin (Spiros son) Fred Zarb may have also contacted you about our family?

Do you know if there is anyway to confirm he registered/naturalized? as a citizen here (He was already British being born in Alexandria) where would I start to find this out?

I think he lived in Basildon and Lewisham area of Essex/London.

Also I would be very interested in being able to trace the family back from Alexandria to Malta (I believe) how could I start?

Please let me know if you need any other specific info.

After I posted the above to yo, I checked my ZARB listings and realised that I had already communicated with you.
I suppose that your mother must have been born in Alexandria, as you mentions that her siblings were married in Alexandria.
