Ancestry don't have permission to use any images of Scottish Censuses ,so you wouldn't be ble to view them there anyway.

I'm afraid for the majority of us Scotlands People is the only way to go  ;)

I know, just thought it would be interesting to see how they had transcribed the names.  :)

hi carol
John and Elizabeth Kerr and their children , their address is (I think)
2 East Back Road Irvine.
john was a coal miner, mary is listed as a domestic servant, the other older children are scholars.

I am really struggling with this in 1871 but think I have the family in 1881.
Dreghorn, Ayrshire

John Kerr, 41  Coal Miner         Kirkolm, Wigtonshire
Jane   "    21, House Keeper, Irvine
William " 18, Coal Miner, Irvine
John    " 13 Coal Miner, B. Irvine
Catherine, 12, Irvine
Agnes 8, Irvine
Margaret, 4, Irvine
Archibald Linn, 45 Brother in law, Coal Miner, born Arran

Does this look like the right family? I will search 1871 with places of birth included.

Well honestly! I don't know how they managed to transcribe it like this but what An*****y has in 1871 is as follows:

John Kert, 35, Coal Miner, Yorkshire
Elizth  ", 35 Arram, Kilkenny
Mary    " 17, dau, Domestic Servant, Irvine
Ada     "  11 dau, Irvine
William " 8  son, Irvine
Robt,  "   7  dau, Irvine
John,   "4    son, Irvine
Johnson " 1 dau, Irvine

I should imagine that Elizabeth's birthplace is more likely to be Kilmory on Arran but unless I get to look at the original, that's just guesswork.

I'm off to see if I have any spare SP credits but as I said earlier, I don't think I have.
