Raylen - did you mean there was no place of birth listed on the index - thus a possibility that getting the actual certificate may find his father's name and perhps a place of birth??

Hi Judith

No birth place is listed on the index.
Not sure if that means details weren't transcribed or
there is none given.

Need a wiser head than mine to clear that up  ;D

I assume you have seen this website which lists the 9 children born to James and Ellen in Victoria, before 1877.  Four of them died in Victoria  :'(  Such a hard life our ancestors had!

there are also some refs to the origins of the Britten family.

Another mention and some contacts on this website

Hi
It looks as if you will need to download the certificate mentioned above if there is any chance of moving forward.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,369963.0.html

will show you what you may find on  a Victorian certificate.

The fact that a birthplace is not mentioned on the index does not mean the certificate is totally bereft of information.

Their marriage came soon after civil registration and it may or may not be of use. There is only one way to find out :D and it seems we cannot help you much without it at this stage.

Many of the marriages on the early Victorian indexes do not show place of birth of bride and groom simply because they were not transcribed.  I suggest you read this link compiled by Graham Jaunay
http://www.jaunay.com/bdm.html

According to the Tasmanian Archives database a James JORDON b. 1835 married in Tasmania in 1862.
http://www.archives.tas.gov.au/nameindexes

Tasmania and Victoria were two separate Colonies.
