John SMITH & Hannah...for anyone looking for a challenge
« on: Saturday 16 January 10 18:13 GMT (UK) »
I haven't got my hopes up on this one, but you RootsChatters never cease to amaze me with what you find...

I am looking for a marriage for John SMITH and Hannah, and baptisms/parents for either. This is what I have:
John SMITH, b. abt 1766, NOT in Nottinghamshire, d. 1844 in Laxton, Notts.
Hannah --?--, b. abt 1770 in Tibshelf, Derbyshire (according to 1851 census), d. 1852 in Laxton, Notts.

They had five children (that I know of), all born at Laxton: Hannah (1801), John (1803), Mary (1805), George (1808) & Jane (1811). Jane was my ancestor.

I have them in all the censuses. It's possible that they married in either Notts or Derbyshire.

Thanks,
Alexander

Hi Alexander

There is this marriage at Kneesall (next parish to Laxton)

John Smith & Hannah Newbolt 29.01.1798.

There doesn't appear to be any Smith children baptised in Kneesall, but there is a gap of 5 years in the IGI (1808 to 1813)

I checked the Phillimore marriage index for Kneesall but no extra information given on that entry.

Hi Carol,

I had seen that marriage as a possibility, but not been able to find an appropriate baptism for Hannah. I think there were a few Newbolds in Derbyshire. It might be worth me posting on the Derbyshire board to see if anyone on there can help.

Thanks,
Alexander
