Possible Wedding in Switzerland?
« on: Sunday 17 January 10 14:45 GMT (UK) »
My great aunt (Tatiana Cafferata DOB 26 Feb 1914 in Newark England) was married at some point before 18th August 1933, as the New York passenger list gives her married name at this date and states that her previous residence was Lausanne, Switzerland.
I've not been able to find a British wedding for her and don't have any clue about finding a Swiss wedding. Can someone help?
Her husband's name was Paul Thoma, DOB 24 Jul 1904.

Hello Braindead,

BMD has Sonia Cafferata born Newark, but in 1908 which tallies with the passenger lists.

Also, the various passenger lists online show her, accompanied by Tatiana Cafferat and one names a friend, Mrs P Thoma.

In 1946 she is still listed as Sonia Cafferata, accompanied by Tatiana Cafferata.

Have not seen any indication of marriage.

Sorry, my mistake, I mixed the sisters' names up. Tatiana Cafferata married Paul Thoma, not Sonia. Tatiana was born in 1914, but to confuse things, her mother was also Tatiana.
Thanks for looking anyway.

No problem!

Looks like Sonia and Tatiana Cafferata went over to visit their sister / daughter Tatiana a few times.

It's only taken me 11 years to find the solution to this problem!

A few days ago, I managed to find Paul Thoma's birth registration in Lyon, France. It very helpfully told me the date of his wedding and the fact that it was in Paris, not Switzerland as I'd thought. The record did get the arrondissiment of the wedding wrong, but I found it through checking the indices.

So it just goes to show, that brick walls can break down, even after many years.
