You can check the 1851 census Litchfield for John and possible parents.

There are a number of McLane's in Litchfield but only 2 with a John born in the 1840s.
James McLane b. Scotland, 36 married to Isabella Sticklar, b. Scotland, 27 has a son John b. 1846.  John McLane, b. Scotland, 75 and wife Mary McDonald 67, b. Scotland are directly above James and Isabella in the census.

In 1861 John, b. Scotland, 85 is living with Jas. and Elisa in Pontiac, Que.  Son John is 15. There are 6 other children.  In 1871 the couple is enumerated under James and Eisebella.  John is still living with parents and 24.

In 1851 there is another couple with son John b. 1842 Quebec as he is 10 years old on the 1851/52 census.  Daniel McLane, b. Scotland, 30and wife Mary Allen b. Scotland, 25.  In 1861 the couple is found under McLean in Pontiac County.  Daniel, 40 and Mary 43 with John 19 and 8 other children.  I didn't find them in 1871 but in 1881 Daniel, 59, and Mary, 61, are in Litchfield Lower Pointiac, Portage du fort village.  Living with them are children Isabella 22, Catharine 20, and Iria 3 (Male).  Directly underneath them are entered Elizabeth McLean, 32, Irish descent, widowed, and George William 4 and Arthur Roy 3.

In Lower Litchfield Cemetery there is a marker for McLean with John 1846-1931, Daniel A. 1863-1943 and Margaret 1861-1950.

In 1891 Isabella Mclean, 63 is a widow living with John McLean, 43 Daniel A., 28 and Margaret 30. Most likely the three above.

Looking for more information on Agnes McLean. Saw 2010 post that has me curious. It is my understanding that Agnes' maiden name was Landel Wilson and in the 2010 post her mother was Mary McKay Wilson. Agnes was born in 1898 in Coldstream Scotland.
