hi diddy

the 1750 was a guess all the info i have was sent to me by someone who asked

for  my help because there are nairn conections to my tree but not a direct line

i recently got hurt at work and am just learning to walk again so doing this

research keeps me busy so i am trying to help her get info for thomas and

elizabeths children and further back if possible.  the son john seems to be able

to disappear  as the info on the distillery and the navy are the newest and

last items known about him  so we are stumped on him and cant find to much

on thomas but like you i think that birthdate might be off  any help is greatly

appreciated this family reminds me of the drylie brickwalls that the chatters

helped me fix in my tree  so i posted for help i posted on the ireland not

county specific for info on the distillery  thanks diddy

hi diddy

what if thomas wasnt born in clack?  there are a couple of other possibilities

there is a thomas born to john nairn and mary ewing in 1744 in lanark with

brothers james and john?  if they followed naming patterns even the brothers

would fit.  But then why didnt thomas and elizabeth name there third son thomas

or maybe william should have been thomas and thats why we cant find his

actual birthdate.  what a mess

Hello beans and Nairns

I am so excited to find your chat. I am a g-g-great dranddaughter of Mary Nairn and James McQueen. I knew the McQueens went to Marlfield, Ireland but never knew why. They had 14 children. After James and 2 of his daughters died, Mary and all the rest of her children except the oldest girl moved to the USA. Mary died in Ohio.

I have a photo of a painting of Mary Nairn on Flickr. My Flickr page is 1americanfamily. Or you can just search for "mary nairn mcqueen" in Google. The photo is copyright free. There are also photos of Mary's son, Robert, his wife, Alicia Haslett, and their two daughters, Alicia and Mary.

It's getting late here. I'll write again.

In the 1990s I spent long evenings reading parish records from Clackmannanshire. This is what I teased out for Mary Nairn McQueen's ancestors. I loved reading these records. Thomas may have written many of the Clackmannan records. The Nairn records are fuller than most. Here's the marriage record for Thomas and Elizabeth Thompson.

“November 11, 1775. Mr. Thomas Nairn School master of this parish and Elizabeth Thomson Daughter to John Thomson Tenant in Long Kene under Lord Kennet enlisted their names in order to marriage and after being publickly proclaimed three Several times in one Lord's day were married the 13th last By the Rev. Mr. Buchannan.”

I didn't find much on Thomas' ancestry, just the marriage between John Nairn and Allison Mitchell at Dollar. Odd there were none of Thomas' children named Allison so maybe those aren't his parents.

Thompsons had better records.

Elizabeth Thompson's parents were:

John Thompson  (John2, James1) b. 9 Jul 1724 Clackmannan, Clackmannan, Scotland
m. 28 Dec 1744 Clackmannan, Clackmannan, Scotland
Elizabeth Critchton (no further ancestors found for her)

John's parents were:
John Thompson  (James1) bapt. 4 Sept 1686 Tulliallen, Tayside, Scotland
m. 2 Sept 1715 Clackmannan, Clackmannan, Scotland
Elizabeth Love  (William1) bapt. 29 Jan 1687 Clackmannan, Clackmannan, Scotland

“July 1, 1715. The day John Thomson in the parish of Tulliallen and Bessie Love in this parish gave up their names to us to be proclaimed in order to marriage and accordingly were married September 2, 1715.”

John's parents were:
James Thompson
m. 28 Aug 1685 Tulliallen, Tayside, Scotland
Janet Henderson

I have family groups if interested.
