Most of the soldiers who served with the British Army in WW1 qualified for campaign medals:

An interesting man, with a very interesting medal index card.

A pre-war regular by the looks of it. He went overseas 20th Sept 1914 and was awarded 1914 Star. Also awarded British War and Victory medals.

Forfeited his entitlement due to Desertion 3/3/16, but had them restored. (Star was not restored until 1924)

Address: 78 Bradley Lane, Bradley, Huddersfield.

Correction, he was actually a Special Reservist.

His service record survives.

I dont know how you managed to find this information but thank you a hundred times your amazing ,this whole case is amazing with lots of unturned stones but due to some of them being in wales there are a few hickups.
Now I will try and get the records card you suggested but can you tell me any information about the regiment he was in ? You say he deserted? do you think i would have a chance of getting his army records? I can not put the story in print for all to read as i do not think it totally fair but if you are interested i will try and find out how to send it you via email which my help fit a few pieces into the jigsaw, he had a son born dec 1916 at that address and that is where we got the army information

The National Archives state on the WW1 Medal Index Cards 'Piece Hampton D Holland E ' on many soldiers cards
Does anyone know what that means?
I emailed the NA and their answer...The detail you mention may be the range of names on the document....not very helpful to me
Thanks in advance!
