Good for you, China...

You've queried on SEVERAL other threads, repunzel....including this one. If you wish to ask more questions, could do it on one of those? We'd also like you to link them all together...otherwise we end up doing it. I also see that you had 2 threads asking for fixups for William's photos....
I looked for some information on your man in Brandon every time I went to the archives...."story of him losing his son" might have been mentioned back ages ago and I'd have found the obit...
Did you write to any of the Harkness families?

Hi, I am new to this site, and reading I just found William Patterson post, and noticed that you mention the father and mother of William, My great, great, great grandfather and mother is John Paterson and Catherine Soutar  from around the Dundee area in Scotland, I am trying to get more information about them and wondering if there is a connection.

Well hello John, and welcome to Rootschat! Yes, it's the right John Paterson and Catherine Soutar. They lived in Dundee and John died young leaving Catherine with 5 children.

If you make 2 more posts you can send private messages on this site. Just say anything at all  :)

Cheers,
China

Hi China, thank you for your response, I have been trying to locate john Paterson's grave, and I believe it is in the St Andrews church in Dundee ?, do you know if he had any siblings.

Well, St Andrew's is a new one to me...I thought he was in the Howff. What info do you have on his death?

Yes he had 4 siblings but they are very hard to find.
Robert Marshall Paterson, 1820-1846
John, 1821-1857 I think
Janet, 1823-1836 I think
William Bell Paterson 1824-1883
Hugh MacGregor Paterson, 1826-?? Absolutely no clue about him. He was born, and then just disappears.

Hi Again, I can't confirm 100% that John Paterson is buried in St Andrew's church, it is something that was passed down to me years ago, apparently there is a Paterson, and a Soutar buried there,
The only thing I know about the John Paterson we are looking at  is that they had a daughter named Mary who married a john Norrie Findlayson, I was hoping that John Paterson had a sister also name Mary as that is where my  researching has taken me.

Well, interesting. I hadn't found a sister Mary and just had another look. Can't find a Mary. But I have the PR pages for all the others if you'd like them.

John's daughter Mary did marry John Norrie Finlayson and they had 9 children. 3 of them emigrated to Canada.

Who are you descended from?
