My great grandmother was born illegitimate but there was a mark in her birth record which I found out related to an entry in a separate register regarding who her father was. He turned out to be a Thomas Gibson of Blackpotts Farm.

Her mother Elizabeth Virtue worked at the farm. I cant remember all of the dates off the top of my head but I will look through my information and clarify soon

Maybe you can help me work out my Gibson line once we work out who we are dealing with

I have a Thomas on the census in 1881 at Blackpotts Farm, aged 18 and a AG LAB

I also have two other Thomas Gobson s but neither were at Blackpotts farm, and appear to  be cousin to the above Thomas.

Not tried there yet. I know lots of people there so should make some headway.

So if Thomas is my great great grandfather, how am I related to you?

My Paternal Grandmother was Jane Hopper GIBSONborn 6th April 1877 died 15th Feb 1931 (in Edinburgh) at Blyth in Northumberland to John Alexander Gibson and Mary Hopper
John Alexander Gibson born Berwick on 2nd June 1850 died Morpeth in 1883, the son of William GIBSON & Rachel Falconer
William was born c1820 (I have a date of Feb 1821) and was in partnership with his brother Anderson born about 1818, in a farm at Burnhall, Coldingham, during the 1861 and 1871 Census.

William & Anderson are 2 of the sons of David Gibson & Isabella Renton. David died at Burnhall in 20th March 1861 at Burnhall!  I also have John 1807, Alison 1809, David 1811, Robert 1815, and Thomas in 1829,  which leaves me to think that there were one or two more between 1821 and 1829!

Thomas was born in 1862 , the son of Anderson and Margaret
I think you need to look at the whole of the south east part of Berwickshire not just Eyemouth!
I have Gibson all over that part of the county

Hi Squirejay

I am looking to find as much information on a Mary Gibson DOB 21st November 1919 and who unfortunately passed away in 1949 of Tuberculosis.   She is the Daughter of a Anderson and Margaret Gibson (formerly Margaret Chisholm) and sister of a David Gibson ( DOB 1911) and Margaret Gibson (DOB 1906).

I believe that Mary was a nurse at the Royal Infirmary Glasgow (certainly in 1942).

I can see that you have done lots of amazing research into the Gibson family, which I have found most interesting and believe that people in America and Vancouver have also been trying to locate information about the gibsons.

I hope you don't mind me asking if you have any information about Mary Gibson from any research you have done?  I have information of  Mary's death certificate in 1949, and information of the marriage certificate for her parents Anderson and Margaret.   I also have information regarding Mary's mother Margaret's death in 1951.

Thank you!

Rainey J

ANDERSON was the son of another Anderson, the brother of William Gibson, my 2 x Great Grand father, who together farmed Burnhall in Coldingham around 1850 to 1870s

Sorry about the two part message but it is some time since I posted something on this great site
