Thanks for all the clues so far.

The picture was sent to me showing possibly my great uncle seated at the right.
I know his DOB was 1893 and that he was exempt from armed forces as he worked on engines for Avonside Engine Company and later Bristol Engines.

I don't know the guy in uniform or why he is with civilians, unless he was an army visitor to the factory or a guard?

Do the shirt collars look like right for about 1924?

And don't the lapel badges look like aircraft?

No cannot be as late as 1924 I'm afraid. This is 1917 - earliest and latest...Any later he would have overseas chevrons or medal ribbons up, and any earlier he would not be wearing that style of SD cap...

The collar badges are most deffo NOT aeroplanes  ;D

They are as I stated the cross pick and rifle of a pioneer bn...

I still opine that they are brothers...Has the chap you think it may be any siblings???

Hi Scrimnet.

Thanks for your wise input. I knew there were some early planes made in Bristol, but they would not have looked like that. I should have read your reply in more detail before passing that comment.

This is getting very interesting now. Indeed my grandfather had two brothers. The trio were Ralph James White b 1893, Percy White b 1897 and Andrew Martin White b 1889. I have no idea what any of them were doing around 1917. Maybe there is more than one of them in the picture?

Hi

I have not managed to find an exact equivalent of any of the brothers on the medal rolls but there were a heck of a lot of Whites in the DCLI.

I'll be truly surprised if these 3 aren't related. Cover the faces of the 2 who are seated and just look at the noses and ears. The one to the left and the one standing, as someone has noted, would pass for fraternal twins.

They're quite dashing, aren't they?  ;)

Gobbo

They may not have joined the DCLI, and they may not have even joined...1917 and still in civvies....!

If his records survive, there may be NOK details....

Any more pics in the family tracker? (or better still, medals!)
