Thanks for that James. I'm not sure Mary died though perhaps divorced as I can find no suitable death registration and on his second marriage he didn't say widower but bachelor.

I have had a certificate arrive
Just to refresh memories it is for the Baby Thomas HEDGES who died in East Malling in 1854 of Cholera Father presant at death James HEDGES.

His Birth Certificate States....

Residence of Informant James HEDGES  is Bernet Hertfordshire.
He must have given this as his permanant place of abode. Might be interesting to search this area.
And Eliza is a JENNINGS Wooohooo.
And William and Susan that died during the same time at the same place sojourning in East Malling must be the Parents of James and therefore the parents of all the brothers. Is this enough proof I ask myself. I think is is for me. Would it be for you?

Hi Sue I think Hertfordshire should have a quick scan don't you. You never know I might come across something. Just curious really as to why he would tell the Registar he lived there. He was according to 1 census born Plumstead another states NK (not known)?

I'm going to do a general scan of 1851 for William1816 and Thomas 1801 as cant find them for 1851,
but at some point it would be good to see if any other children were born to James and Eliza in Hertfordshire. Just a thought that they may have spent some time there.
