That's all the children I can find.  That marriage of a William Hedges is also looking good.

It also seems they remained local to St. Albans, rather than scout around the south of England.  We know William Hedges was a Hawker though, thanks to the 1851 census entry.

Hi everyone

Jenny I am so pleased for you!!!!! That death cert certainly helps ...with the 2 HEDGES brothers marrying 2 JENNINGS sisters ..... :D :D Also that James Hedges gives place of Residence as HERTS

Just wanted to remind you of The Jennings mother who was also born HERTS

(also we also came to the conclusion that Elias eastwood = Harriet JENNINGS may have changed his name to John)

This is from a couple of pages back:

Following up on John and Harriet Eastwood ...this is them in 1851

Caroline dau 5 b Hadlow

Blimey ... on the page prior and living next to them

1901 census has:

Alfred Hedges   23   St Albans Herts   London       Brush Maker

Alfred Hedges   44   Hertford St Albans   Yorkshire   Skipton   Traveller For ...

Mostly likely father and son.

Deb, that would be Hoddesdon in Hertfordshire.

There also seems to be another Hedges family of St. Albans that have children called James and Alfred as well.

Thomas Hedges and Sarah, had issue:

1. Elizi. Hedges, chr. 22 Apr. 1827, St. Peter, St. Albans
2. Henry Hedges, chr. 28 Sep. 1828, St. Peter, St. Albans
3. Emma Hedges, chr. 28 Nov. 1830, St. Peter, St. Albans
4. James Hedges, chr. 14 Apr. 1833, St. Peter, St. Albans
5. Joseph Hedges, chr. 4 Oct. 1835, St. Peter, St. Albans
6. Alfred Hedges, chr. 2 Oct. 1842, St. Peter, St. Albans
7. Ellen Hedges, chr. 2 Oct. 1842, St. Peter, St. Albans

Now they could be related to the other Hedges of St. Albans... we need to find them on the census and see if they are travellers.

Islington is in London.

If you've ever been to the old Family Records Centre (before it went to Kew), then that is roughly where Islington is (next door to Clerkenwell).

So hardly a rural area.  Perhaps they fell on hard times or something?  Most of the travellers we've come across have been living in caravans near hamlets and villages, no in the centre of London.
