Mary E. Murray
« on: Tuesday 09 February 10 14:15 GMT (UK) »
Hello folks, i've been trying to find the date of death of Mary E. Murray for a while now but no success. She was my grandmothers (Margeret Murray) only sister. She was born in 1898 and was at Fountain Hill on the 1901 census and Herbert St in the 1911 one. After that the trail is lost. Sometime after 1911 (according to my grandmother, who told my mother) she was accidently hit with a 'snowball' with a stone inside it and shortly that was put in a mental hospital. I am nearly sure she is buried with her mother in the old ardmore graveyard but as there are no headstones marking he grave and no records of there i'm at a loss??

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Does anybody know if there are records available for places like mental hospitals and where could you get them?

Gransha, formerly Londonderry Lunatic Asylum, is the local mental hospital. They will have records of inmates but getting details depends on several things. If you wish to try to obtain any information from them you will have to put your request in writing (have gotten details from Downshire from 1950s by explaining I was interested in family medical details).
Some records (minute books, etc.) are deposited at PRONI, Belfast but patient records should still be at Gransha.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi there. Apologies for cutting in on a post but I am brand new to RootsWeb.
Hi Edenreaghbeg - I believe we may be related! I too am researching the Magill/McCorriston line. They are my great great grandparents. I am unsure how to private message but I would love to find out some more info from you as I thought I'd hit a brick wall when I saw they came from Ireland (all the horror stories about no records being available). I was born in Scotland (and can therefore fill you in on that side of things). My parents moved to Australia when I was 5 and I have been living here ever since.

Kiannmac,
To use the Private Message system you have to have made three posts and then if you click on the green scroll beneath the person you want to contact it will put you into the PM system.
