If they went to New York between 1892-1924 you should find them at www.ellisisland.org (free site but you'll need to register)- and be sure to read both pages of manifest to see details of nearest relative in U.K., details of person they were going to join in U.S., etc.

Thank you Gabriel, i have come to a bit of a standstill at the moment, i already have a copy of the picture you sent but did not have the names i am trying to trace family of Emma Higgins (nee O'Kane (Harryroe) ) i know Bernard O'Kane 1871-1932 and Mary Diamond 1881-1847 were Emma's parents. Emma married Patrick Higgins 01/07/1939 she was 1 of 11 children born to Mary Diamond. I am also trying to trace Patrick Higgins family but also have come to a standstill, what is your connection with the Diamond family if any?
many thanks mike

My great grandfather was Daniel O'Kane 1799-1883 (of the Commercial Hotel...now the Central bar on Garvagh Main Street) His brother was Henry Roe O'Kane.I think that they had another brother called James. My grandfather was John O'Kane.I haven't been able to find a birth cert for him.His sister Rose was born in 1851 and another sister,Kate was married to Matthew McKeefry in1863 so was probably born in the early 1840's.Do you have any record of his birth? He married Margaret O'Mullan in 1878

Welcome to Rootschat. I might have some information but registration of births started in 1864 so there will be no birth certificates before that date.

Thanks for your reply. When you mentioned the birth records you had on CD I thought that they might be church records and pre-dating the civil registration records. Thanks again.
