Hi Jack

Yes I am really interested.
I am sure that there is a connection.
Do you know if Thomas O'Connor and Honora Culligan were the parents of the O'connor brothers who played for Garryowen?
As I said its only what I've been told I have no proof.
My Husband will be so chuffed if there is a connection as he is a big Rugby Fan especially Ireland.
Look forward to hearing from you soon and thank you for your help.

Hi Cheryl,

I don’t know the answer to your question. However my brother is going to register and contribute – he knows more than I do.

Unfortunately the news doesn’t seem to be good for your husband. My brother also says that the only sister was a nun.

In a different vein he thinks he played rugby against Jean’s father, the golden boy. (They’re were all golden boys in Limerick).

More later,

Jack

Hi folks

My name is Michael and I am named after Mick and Jean is my first cousin. My mother Joan O'Connor is Mick's eldest daughter and golden boy Sean is my uncle.

As far as I know my grandfather and his brothers had the same Christian names as the previous generation. Not uncommon. However, there seems to be no Thomas in the family at any point. By the way the only sister was a nun, Mary I think.

Cheryl, you might be on a long shot here!

Regards

Michael

Hello Cheryl,

An inherited old photo exists here in Cork showing Mother Dominic (apparently) - the only sister of the "O'Connor Brothers". Legend has it that she lived to be 100. Do you know where Thomas and Honora lived? We could check the 1901 census to see if anything turns up. Cousins perhaps?

Hello Michael,

We never knew that our Joan O'Connor had a first cousin of the same name. Have you seen the "Family Tree" that was prepared by a Joe O'Connor a few years ago?

Regards,

Jack Casey

Hi Jack

Thanks for offering to help me.
I'm really struggling with the Guerin's and the O'Connors.

There were 3 Guerin Brothers,
Lawrence David Guerin born 1923 in Limerick Ireland died 1977 in Louth Lincolnshire, Ashes buried in Limerick.

Joseph Guerin born 1930 Limerick Ireland died about  1991 ?

The other brother is my Father in Law and is still alive so I am not posting his details.

They had a sister called Margaret who was born 1926 in Limerick and died in 4th Sept 1938 buried in Limerick.

Their parents were Teresa O'Connor and William Guerin.

Teresa's  father was Thomas O'Connor   and mother was Honora Culligan.
They were all of the RC Faith

I have been told that Teresa was sister or some sort of relation to the O'connor Brothers Rugby players.
I am not sure if this information is correct so any help you could give me would really be appreciated.

Hi Jack,

Didn't know a family tree had been produced. Would be very interested in seeing it however. Is there an electronic copy available?

Regards

Michael

Cheryl,

Bear with me. I'm still on the case though progress is slow.

Michael,

Ditto above. I'm trying to enlist the efforts of my elders..........lots of interest but things not going as fast as I'd like. A Family Tree was done at some stage but how complete....and where it is now...........is work in progress. Certainly not electronic..................handwritten at best.
Rather than post snippets I'll try to gather as much as I can.

Jack

Hey Cheryl,

Perhaps Honora was actually Hanora?

I've come across the death notice of Hanora O'Connor - died on 7/7/1914 at her daughter's house (name not given) at 3 Crescent Villas. Reference is made that she was formerly of Thomas Street, and wife of the late Thomas O'Connor? Finding them on the 1901 & 1911 census is proving difficult though.

Michael,

See this link ........................could we trace the 49 medals. There's one here in Cork.......only 37 to go.
