New Personal Website
« on: Friday 12 February 10 12:58 GMT (UK) »
Hi Notts Researchers

I know I have had an archives website here in Sussex for a considerable number of years (www.rootschat.com/history/hastings) - but have never had a personal site up and running properly, so thought it about time that I did.

Over the last 24 hours I have put together the BASICS of a site dealing with my ancestors and Maythorn Silk Mill near Southwell in Nottinghamshire, from whence they came.
Would appreciate constructive feedback either on here or by Personal Message.  The address of my site is

http://maythornemill.webs.com

Looking forward to some interesting comments

Hi,

I have been and had a look and  the site looks great. Easy to navigate and lots of information on it. I dont personally have any ancestors from the area but sure it will help a lot of people who do.
Well done  :)

Hi Mom of Two

Thank you for those nice comments - much appreciated; I am beginning to like the look of it myself now.

Interesting to read the stats on the web site
In the first 24 Hours:
45 visitors of which 43 came via the Rootschat Forum
38 of those came from England, 2 from USA, 2 from Austrailia and 1 from Germany (bet that was Berlin Bob)
All users except 1 were using Windows XP
Average time on the site was 7 mins 20 secs - so people were reading the content
plus lots of other small details - fascinating how you can get all that info isnt it

But once again, thanks for visiting

Hi Chris in1066,

What a great site, so interesting to read the stories and look at the photos.

Exactly what I think family history should be about not just names and dates but also what they were doing and how they lived.

This is something I am looking to with my own research. Not just the who and when but also the WHY
Fantastic

Hi Chris

Nicely set out website with some interesting stories, looking good!

I agree with teaurn's comments about family history being about more than just names and dates and I particularly enjoyed reading Fred's story.

Keep up the good work.

Kerry :)

Hi Teaurn & Kerry

Thanks for those comments and I am glad you liked Freds Story - the knowhow from how to write that came from a correspondence course I did in writing family history from the Institute at Canterbury - I also had to write my own Autobiography as well !! (Incidentally, Fred is my Grt Grandfather)

You hit it on the head when you said Family History is not just Names and Dates - its nice to put them into context and weave them into  whatever else is happening locally and in the world at that time.

I appreciate your comments
