Lost HAYLON/ HALION/ HALIAN/ HEALION Sisters
« on: Monday 15 February 10 06:28 GMT (UK) »
Looking for any information on Bridget and Honora Halion two sisters that arrived nsw in 1849 on board the "Success" with their sister Mary and brothers Thomas and Patrick also Patricks wife and children. Their father Thomas was a convict on board the "Cambridge" in 1827. Mother Mary Daly stayed in Ireland. Brother Thomas married Eliza Long in Goulburn NSW and sister Mary married John Byron in Bungendore Nsw not far from Goulburn. Brother Patrick died 1857 Bungendore. No death found for father Thomas but was in the Goulburn area when his children arrived according to their shipping records. The Family was from West meath Ireland.

No trace of the two girls has been found since their arrival in 1849. Honora on arrival was aged 26 years so born c1823 and Bridget 25 years born c1824 state their native place as Kill, West meath Ireland.

I did send to Ireland for information but they only found Mary's birth no other children and couldn't find a marriage for Thomas (convict) Halion and Mary Daly.

Any help would be much appreciated.
Regards
Kristy

Perhaps this is Patrick the brother
Death
1857 HAYLAN ,PATRICK father   THOMAS  mother MARY at QUEANBEYAN reg  4255

Is this Mary the sister?

Death
In 1889  BYRON  MARY J. father THOMAS  mother MARY A  BUNGENDORE    reg.33222

and her husband?
Death
In 1902  BYRON,  JOHN at  BUNGENDORE reg 8713

A possible mistake was perhaps made in the recording of the name of BRIDGET's mother at death.

Queanbeyan and Bungendore are about 20 km  apart . :D

Hi
So I think I must have missed something else here.

Sorry should have said in first post that Patricks wife was also Bridget (nee Keating) and daughter was Bridget who married Peter Reilly she's buried Goulburn with her husband.  HS

Patrick's wife's name was therefore Bridget Haylen>
Their daughter was therefore Bridget Haylen>
She marrried Peter Reilly and became Bridget Reilly>
Her mother was still Bridget and her father was still Patrick.?

That is not what the death registration shows.

See above.

Death
In 1873    REILLY, BRIDGET father,  THOMAS mother HONORA at QUEANBEYAN reg.6539

The following website gives the burial of Bridget at Queanbeyan in 1873 which only adds to the confusion  ???

http://www.interment.net/data/aus/nsw/southerntablelands/quean_river/index.htm

Reilly, Bridget, d. 24 Jun 1873, age: 28yr, RC Sec, Unmarked

This gives a birthdate of c1845.  Possibly this Bridget who is in Queanbeyan is of a different family - surname and Christian names (hers and her parents) are very common Irish names.  No other Reillys listed

Hi all,
Ah, good finding Judith.

Definitely this Bridget is not the missing one :(
She seems to be, as you say, a coincidence of names and location.
Mmm... More thinking needed

Thank you everyone for your help.
As Sue has said this Irish family is very confusing as they all seem to have the same names repeated for each gen. Bridget , Patrick, Thomas, Mary, Catherine, Honora, James .
I have just been going over all the paper work for this family and have a copy  of a document where Thomas the convict requests the the Government give free passage to his wife and children this letter is dated 18 July 1836 this is 13 years prior to the arrival of his children. The letter states and this is where I get confused ;
"Convicts family wife Mary Helion alias Daly 48yrs eldest child Patt Helion 25 yrs his wife Bridget Helion alias Keating, under 25 years- Honor Helion, Darby Helion, Thomas Helion and Mary Helion aged 9 yrs youngest child. ???
So I checked Irish names and Darby is a male name so did they "nickname" Bridget -Darby or do I have an extra child to look for.  ??? :'(
Darby is placed in the letter where Bridget should be so........................any suggestions.

Any input on this very confusing family will be greatly appreciated.
 Kindest regards
HS
