IRONSIDE lookup please Fyvie COMPLETED
« on: Tuesday 16 February 10 01:39 GMT (UK) »
Please could someone tell me the full inscription on stone 244 in Fyvie burial ground.
ANESFHS booklet reference number AA136

It should have George Ironside and his wife Jean/Jane Milne.

I'm hoping to work out how the other people on the stone are related to them. I believe them to be some of their children and George's brother.

Thanks

Unbelieveable! I was looking at one of my certs tonoght and found that on the same entry as the birth I had downloaded was a Jane Ironside born in Fyvie. 1858 is this one of yours. If so then send me your email address

She may well be one of mine. My Ironsides were certainly living in Fyvie at that time. It would be great if you could send me a copy. I have sent you a PM.

Thanks again.

Hello! You are descended from James Ironside and Helen Gray from Hillhead of Peterwell, Fyvie. I am descended from their daughter, Elspet (1776-1848). I have quite a lot of information on the family. Please get in contact if you think I can help with your researches.

Somehow I failed to see this when it was originally posted so I apologise for not replying sooner.

I have just returned to researching this branch of the family today. I am happy that I have traced my line back to George Ironside and Jane Milne at Mill of Fintry and have been filling in their immediate family. GR2 I would be very happy if you have any more information on them.

The gravestone quoted above gets George Ironside's age and year of death wrong and does the same for James.

The grave actually contains Jane Milne and William Ironside.

Jane's husband, George, and William's wife, Ann, are in the neighbouring grave along with George's mother, Helen Gray, his brother, John, and John's wife, Helen Ferrier.

George's brother, James, is in a grave in another row.

Ah Thank you , I was trying to puzzle that out today. I think there are 4 headstones in Fyvie belonging to my family and I was looking for marriages to work out where everyone fits in.
