Hi Osprey
Many thanks for the details; you mentioned earlier Micah can be followed through the census, he becomes a weaver and is in Gelligaer in 1891.  I would be interested in his details if you have them on hand.

Cheers, Roy

I have the marriage of Catharine Lewis and John Hayward on December 21st 1871 at St John the Evangelist Church, Miles Platting, Manchester after the reading of banns.  Her father was named as David Lewis, a weaver, but it does not state that he is deceased. His father was Richard Hayward a labourer.  They both signed the register and the witnesses were John Evans and Margaret Hayward.

Also in 1891 census they were named Heywood and all of them in the family were stated as born in Manchester.  It took me ages to find them.

Hope this helps.  Regards  r-mum.

Hi r-mum
Thanks for the marriage details; I'm sure you'll agree every piece of info is a step to the next generation so I am very grateful for the details you have added.  The different spelling of the surname threw me also so again I appreciate the time and effort you put into helping with this.
Best Regards, Roy

Roy
You may already have got this info as I have just seen these posts.  I am a relative of Catherine Hayward,  I have her birth certificate which confirms her mother's maiden name was James.   We can now be pretty certain that the lodger Charles James in the 1851 census is her father.  On the 1841 census for Charles James, he is living with his wife Ann and two Lewis children, namely Elizabeth and Mary.  (Catherine named her second daughter Elizabeth Lewis).  Mary is back with the family on the 1851 census.
If you google "The Descendants of Thomas Evans" it shows that Charles James married Thomas Evans grand daughter Anne Amelia Evans in Llanddewi Brefi in 1794 and he was a Sergeant in the Battle of Waterloo.  There is lots of good info there.
I know that you have been in touch with another relative, Roland, via the Llanddewi Brefi site.  I will be sending copies to him this weekend of the items I have found, including two pages of Charles James discharge papers.  As you have his address and if you would like copies, perhaps it would be easier to get in touch with him.
I hope this has been a bit of help to you.  We are all finding it fascinating the history we have been able to dig up.

Cheers and all the best
Amron

I have just seen your post about Catherine Hayward (nee Lewis).  She was my great grandmother and I am so thankful to you for the information about her father and the rest of the family which I found after googling "The Descendants of Thomas Evans".  Thank you again.

Hello r-mum
You say you are the great granddaughter of Catherine Lewis, why not get in touch if not here then [by PM] and we can share knowledge of the family's history.  Anne [Catherine's sister] and David Edwards are my great grandparents; my name is Robert Edwards, living in Caerphilly and I would be more than happy to share information.

Cheers
