Womar family
« on: Wednesday 17 February 10 20:17 GMT (UK) »
Hi,
Looking for information on Cecilie WOMAR, who married William G. LITTLE at Sleaford during December quarter of 1918. Cannot seem to find her on any census return pre marriage. Mainly interested in her family. I understand that her son, Frederick died at the Somme in 1917. Cecilie may have been German origin, so could have changed her family name. They may have moved to the Sunderland area.
Any advice would be welcome.

Hi, Gortonboy, Tati & Susard,
Thank you for your replies. I can always depend on Rootschat for answers. You have cleared up the problem with Cecilia. She obviously married William Little after Frederick was killed. When I looked at the WW1 Medal Roll card, she is listed as his next of kin - card must have been filled in at the end of the war, after she was married again. I read it that she was his grandma!!
I cannot find out much about the Womar family prior to 1891. The friend who I am doing this research for thinks that the family had German origins. Certainly, on the IGI there are all sorts of spellings. This is going to be a tough one!!
There must have been a child by the first marriage, as he was my friend's father but he doesn't know his christian name. He was a fighter pilot in WW2 - shot down and killed. His mother married another fighter pilot (his father's best friend) and he was also killed in action!! His mother is still alive, so I will ask him to talk to her some more. All the family photos were destroyed by a family-wellwisher. Such is life!!
Many thanks once again.
Rob.

Hi, Tati & Gortonboy,
Thank you for your efforts and info. I had just found the marriage of 1938 when I had your reply. I have spent most of the morning trying to find the Womer on any census, apart from the 1891 without success. They seem to have disappeared since before Frederick, b. 1856 was born until 1891. Are the Scottish censuses (censi) available at all in case they slipped 'over the border' for several years? Quite a mystery but it keeps me out of mischief.
