Grace MacKinlay who are you? Help
« on: Monday 22 February 10 01:53 GMT (UK) »
I have a baptism for my ggg grandmother Mary Sharp. baptised Liberton 11 Jun 1815 to parents John Sharp and Grace Mackinlay [FR1343]. She also gives these names as her parents on her marriage certificate

But for the life of me I can't find any further reference to Grace at all.
There doesn't appear to be any other children baptised to John and Grace, so possibly she died in child birth?.

I have hunted high and low under every name variation I could think of on SP.
No marriage for her and John in SP or the IGi.
Even seached the IGI for a Grace who married a MacKinlay but nothing....
John Sharp was born in Lasswade  in 1793 and his family lived in and around Liberton. So Grace was probably born around the same time but where?

The only lead I have is:
Mary named her first daughter "Margaret Tait Livingston". The name does not appear to come from the Livingston line that she married into.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to look next please?
TIA

Hi

I've found a Grizzel McKinlay baptised 1 April 1797, Douglas, LKS

Parents - William McKinlay and Jean Inglis

Grizzel is  often used as an alternative to Grace in Scotland.   The family might have moved to Midlothian at some stage for work  (coal mining for e.g)

Thanks Kerry I have found them in 41 and 51.
John Sharp married Georgina Girdwood 4 Dec 1829 Liberton.

Grizzel ? Now hadn't heard of that as an alternative to Grace. Learn something everyday. Thanks Gadget. Thats a good point about the move to the mine, will have a dig around her.

Now if I could only find a marriage that would link her and John ::)
If she was that right one she would only have been 18 when she had Mary in 1815.

Many thanks
Lynne

Hi Nan,
for once I am completely stuck with Grace, so any help would be absolutely wonderful. All I know is that mary b 1815 Liberton ended up in Australia. She married two brothers Gilbert Livingston(cant find a marriage for her, but suuposedly in Tasmania)  first and secondly Francis Gilbert Livingston in Melbourne 1859.

So yes please HELP ;D

Ok, now I am brand new at this.  I googled "Mary Tait Livingston" yesterday in a last ditch effort to find the date of her death, and I got this thread of yours.  I then had to join so that I could contact you.  Mary is also my ggg grandmother.  which of her children are you descended from?  that will make it easier for me to know which information to send you.
Nan
