« on: Tuesday 23 February 10 11:21 GMT (UK) »
Hi, Iam having great trouble researching my maternal family tree ie Hynd. The information that I have is as follows. My Maternal grandfather was Peter Hynd b Wishaw 1890.His parents were William Hynd b c1854 Old Monkland and Catherine Duncan c1858 Fremlington nr Motherwell.Williams father was John Hynd bc1803 place not sure.John Hynd died 1862  in Old Monkland. On his death certificate his parents are not named this is the problem I have.Johns wife was Margaret Mckay/Mackie they were married in Bothwell 1835.She died 1861.It also seems that my John Hynd was also married to a Ann/Anne Muir who may have died in c 1833/4.Can anyone help.

Hi Texaco

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

John Hynd is hard to figure out given he gives different birth places on all 3 censuses  :-\

Have you got the family's 1841 census entry. Might help with the names he has used for his children from his first marriage:

John Hynd 36, I M, (ironstone miner?) b. in the county of Lanarkshire
Margt Hynd 30
James Hynd 15
John Hynd 13
Thos Hynd 11
Peter Hynd   9
Mary A Hynd 5
Jean Hynd 3
David Hynd 2

Address: Graham Street, Airdrie

1851 and he and the family are living at Maggies Haugh, Old Monkland and John shows as aged 48 and born in Damaner, Stirling. This is from the transcript, not sure what the original says for his birth place.

The year before his death, with the family at Woodhall Sq in Old Monkland, John aged 59 shows as born in Pomaner, Linlithgow - again the original would help to at least determine the place name although we are moving about three counties by now  :-\

There are 3 John Hynd births around 1803 -
10 Jan 1803, Polmont Stirling.  Parents John Hynd/Jean Russell
29 May 1903, Dollar Clackmannan, Parents John Hynd/Margaret Campbell
15 September 1805, Barony, Glasgow Parents John Hynd/Catherine Boag
- but of course because that's before the magic 1855 there's no guarantee that any of them are yours.

Hi Texaco - it might be worth asking the question on the "Who's Who of Hynds" group on Facebook, to see if you can get any help from fellow Hynds:
