Hi Julia,

Sorry to say that I cannot see any reference to Walker or Watson in Eddleston.   I do see a Stevenson but it is for a Margaret Stevenson who died Edinburgh 1858 who was married to John Cochrane farmer at Nether Kidston.

I have also searched Peebles for you and found this one:-

Alex Walker 11.6.1870 87, w Grace Laidlaw 7.7.1833 65 (?), da Helen 11.11.1863 (40), s Geo 6.7.1818 1, da Mary 2.2.1843 21, by yt da Janet NZ 1873, gs John Walker 13.6.190(6) 74 (w Isabella Ker 24.1.191(6) 78, da Grace Ker Walker 5.1.1939 70)

This is exactly how it is typed.

Do you think that this is your family?   Obviously the NZ part jumped out to me.

Feel free to ask me to check any other if you wish.

Kind regards

Brina :)

Julia,

I see that there is a Janet Walker born in Peebles 1803 to James Walker and Katherine Watson.   Will this be the same people?  I know the date is slightly out but it may be the same family.

Yes that's the family Brina. The other NZ connection is not mine. Our family didn't come here till the 1920s but thanks

Hello Brina,

Would you mind please checking Newlands Churchyard to see if there is an MI for a THOMAS BROWN who probably died before 1842 and his wife JANET BROWN (maiden name also Brown) who died after 1850 and probably before 1855.

Thanks,
Canisp.

Are you still researching these Johnstones? My gg grandfather was James Johnstone, a brother of your Adam Johnstone with parents Walter Johnstone (blacksmith) and Marion Fairlie.  I can give you details of that Johnstone line right back to James Johnstone who died in 1691 - oldest decipherable tombstone at Drummelzier - TXif you are still interested.

Hello Carrie, yes I have all the details you mention above and visited Drummelzier last year. I think we have been in contact before. I will send you a PM.

Hi Brina. I saw your offer to do lookups and some samples for West Linton.

My WHITE family lived in West Linton from at least 1700 to early 1800's although I may still have some relations there. My branch of family came to New Zealand in 1858.

Brief outline - Thomas WHITE born about 1675; had son Robert 1698 who married Margaret Murray 1723, Their son Thomas b. 1726 mar. Jean Melrose and had son Robert 1751 who mar. Lillias Gray 1775. He died 1816. Their son Thomas b.1799 mar. Jane Kemp about 1804. He died 1852 but think family had shifted to Edinburgh by then.

Hope you can help. Regards Chas Le Breton

Hi Chas,

Sorry I haven't been in touch sooner.   Looked up the book tonight and this is what I found re the names you gave.   I've copied it exactly so hope you are OK with the abbreviations.

Robert White wright 23.8.1816 65, w Lilias Gray 9.2.1849 92;  Helen White Feb 1783 1 1/2;  Jas White Feb 1793 12;  Robt White July 1798 10;  Alex June 1808 12;  Robt Feb 1809 5;  Thos 21.8.1823 44

This is obviously your family.   There are a few other entries for White but the names don't match with those you supplied.   I can copy them out for you if you wish.   I have cross checked the womens maiden names and don't think any are related.

Brina😃
