Robertsons *COMPLETED*
« on: Wednesday 03 March 10 20:56 GMT (UK) »
This is a very general inquiry
A relative of mine Agnes Ann Watt married a John Kear Robertson
in Edinburgh 1817, he was born Scotland March 1879 at Wellgreen Dumfries
but was in the Canadian Army as a machine gunner when he married Agness Ann Watt
his birth record shows his father David as Manager of Chrichton Royal Institution

Post 1918 the couple and their son John moved to British Columbia, Canada
where they had 9 more children.

John Robertsons father David Robertson married Ann Kear in St Cyrus
April 30 th 1869.

in Census 1871, David was Farm Overseer at Stirling District Asylum, Larbert, County of Stirling

I have been told that David and the rest of his family moved to New Zealand.

I would be gratefull for any and all information.

It's okay Angusg ...  correct date can be determined from the other information you've supplied.  :D

Hi Angusg

As might be imagined with a name like "David ROBERTSON", there are numerous New Zealand records for persons so-called.  ;)

In order to help with your search, we need some further information.

*   David ROBERTSON's year of birth.

*   "the rest of David's family"   ??
      ---   Who are they ?
---   Names and ages, please ?

*   An approximate time frame for David and rest of family, leaving Scotland ?

Hi again

Have you a copy of the John Kear ROBERTSON (Agnes Ann WATT) marriage certificate ?

*  Do Scottish marriage certs. of that era, record whether the parents of bride and groom, were deceased ?

*  Have you looked for the family of David ROBERTSON in later census records ?

Rhnaks all.

The marriage of Agnes Ann Watt and John Kear Robertson was 1917.

His father David Robertson was born approx 1843 Meigle, Perthshire
his mother Annie Kear was born approx 1841 St cyrus, Kincardine

Their was a sister Jane Robertson born approx 1870 Larbert, Stirlingshire

Yes both David and Annie were alive in 1917.

I do not know who the rest of the family were.

Thanks again for your attention.

 - if you look at John's WWI records it mentions first Aberdeen and his mother, then "Annie" is crossed out, Agnes put in, and the Aberdeen address is replaced with a mental hospital somewhere near Wellington (given David's occupation I guess they were staff, not residents).  Possibly it says "Porirua Hos." - e.g. www.poriruahospitalmuseum.org.nz - you could try contacting them.

He also mentions Baden Powell's Police (previous service), which puts him in SA I believe!

http://listsearches.rootsweb.com/th/read/BOER-WAR/2003-03/1047154090
 - this mentions a brother, Arthur William, who was also in SA
http://searches2.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/SCOTLAND-GENWEB/1999-11/0942122670
 - also the full name of John Kear's father is "David Walker Robertson".

http://search.bcarchives.gov.bc.ca/sn-2EB905C/gbsearch/Births,Marriages,Deaths
 - shows deaths for two John Kear Robertsons (father and son?) and an Agnes Watt Robertson (not sure on her).

From www.familysearch.org there were at least three sisters b. in Scotland - Jane Helen (1870), Ann (1872) ,and Agnes (1873), so "Agnes" on the WWI records might be his sister not his wife; or if it is his wife she was also in NZ?
