Needham Market Independent Congregational - Samuel Fox (1773-1846)
« on: Sunday 07 March 10 05:29 GMT (UK) »
Hi
I have a Samuel Fox who according to the National Burial Index was buried on 4 Jul 1846 at Needham Market Independent Congregational.
Is this the same church as today's "Christchurch" in Needham Market? and would he have been buried in the church grounds? or in the Needham Market Cemetery?
Incidentally I'm also looking for:
  • a birth record of this Samuel Fox (birth around 1773) died age 73 years, a Maltster.
  • a marriage record for Samuel Fox and Amy Gibbons about 1805
Thanks
Dennis

Hello Dennis,

There might be more information on the congregational church at needham on the village web site - hosted by SCC at OneSuffolk.

http://www.onesuffolk.co.uk/NeedhamMktTC/

It looks as though Christchurch is the former Congregational church.

There is a Local History Recorder for Needham should you wish to contact her, I can PM you the details, including her email address.

Some more Needham Market info at the Real Ale web site   :o

Hi Pat

You wouldn't mind sending me her address as well as I have a number of Mulley relatives whose baptism records can not be found in Needham Market church parish registers at the Suffolk Records office so I can only presume that they were christened in the Independent Church.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Pat
Thanks for those leads.  I would like that contact you have in Needham; she could certainly help confirm the Christchurch proposition and hopefully the question of burial sites.
Regards
Dennis

Don't forget that Needham Market St John the Baptist (with Darmsden) parish church was in fact a chapel of ease and all events, bbmb took place at nearby Barking (with Darmsden) St Mary.

Suffolk Local History Council Recorders are able to help with local history and therefore can probably find help for Dennis locating a church/chapel.

Whilst some have an interest in family history Alan, others have no interest whatsoever and are unable to help with those enquiries.

Alan, I will PM you the details - it's worth a try, but as I say the local history recorder may not be any help.
