Peckham 1930s-1940s
« on: Sunday 07 March 10 16:55 GMT (UK) »
Does anyone know where there are links to photos of Peckham during the 1930s-1940s.  My partner's mother lived there from 1925 until the end of the war and suffered the blitz.  One of the family houses was destroyed and none of the family houses seem to be left standing anyone which is a shame; even some of teh streets have gone such as Bells Garden Road.

Hi Stewart

There's a mixed bunch here from 1810-1986 (not all photos obviously!):  http://www.rootschat.com/links/0869/

They come from a website called Ideal Homes: Suburbia in Focus, which includes a few south London boroughs:  http://www.ideal-homes.org.uk/index1a.html

And this is from Southwark Council's eMuseum (for those who don't know, Peckham is in the London Borough of Southwark):  http://www.rootschat.com/links/086a/
You may find something useful there.

Kind regards

contact southwark family history library and they will help-they have thousands of photos of the area and staff are very knowledgeable http://www.southwark.gov.uk/DiscoverSouthwark/heritageandhistory/LocalHistoryLibrary/FamilyHistoryResearch.html
if you ask if they hold photos of named streets, they will be able to tell you or advise
