Yes, I should have mentioned the soldiers' individual records that are fairly easily available. However, though they are useful they by no means tell the whole story and it's the muster rolls and paylists that are the really useful documents - they provide a hoard of data. The downside is that they're not transcribed and only the originals can be seen at the National Archives (Kew).

My own webpages (previously referred to) also provide 40th Foot and other data extracted from the pensioners' records in WO97 and WO120, which can be seen on-line at http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/.
