Rose Dorothy GILLICK

Trying to find details of the death of Rose Dorothy Gillick born 29.9.1886 at Craddock South Australia, daughter of Patrick Gillick and Bridget Gillick. Rose migrated to USA in 1920 and became a U.S. citizen in 1937. She returned to Australia on 29.1.1955 to live permanently with her sisiters Ellen Catherine Gilick and Margaret Gillick at 49 High St Glenelg. Both her sisters are buried in St Jude's Brighton Cemetery.

There are only 7 entries in the White Pages (current phone listings) for Gillick in South Australia, and two of them are at the same address so you may like to write or call them.

If you give the dates of the sistres' deaths I can look up  newspapers for a death notices which may help you.

There are the following death registrations. However that of Rose does not quite fit with the date you have given for her return to Australia.

Rose GILLICK aged 78 and single of Adelaide died on 4th January 1954 at Northfield
Ref = PtA H  806/284

Margaret GILLICK aged 85 and single of Victor Harbor died on 14th April 1970 at Mitcham.
No relative listed.
Ref = Ade H 86A/2830

Ellen GILLICK aged 70 and single of Cowandilla died on 5th January 1965 at Brighton
Ref =Ade H  985/90


Don't know if that is of any help.

I can't find a birth registration for Rose Dorothy Gillick.

There are birth registrations for two Ellens, one being Ellen Catherine, born to Patrick GILLICK and Bridget MCAULEY at Wirreanda on the 28th April 1881.
Ref = Fro 261/9

The other Ellen GILLICK was born 12th December 1892 to Patrick GILLICK and Kate O'Brien at Angaston.
Ref = 513/169

The only birth for a Margaret that I can see is also the daughter of Patrick GILLICK and Kate Therese O'Brien. She was born on 1st December 1896 at Angaston.
Ref = Ang 595/115

So I'm not sure if the deaths I posted for you are relevant.

Hello,

For such an unusual surname this is proving a bit of a puzzle.

http://www.saghs.org.au/graves.htm  has several entries for Gillick:

There are two burials  for Bridget Gillick
one in 1894 for Bridget and one 1895 Bridget Agnes

a 1970 burial for Margaret Gillick
a 1971 burial for Nellie Catherine  Gillick

There are also some newspaper indexesand government gazettes for Gillick

Here's the death of Nellie Catherine......and her age fits with the daughter born to Patrick and Bridget at Wirreanda.

Nellie Catherine GILLICK aged 90 and single of Glenelg South died  on 28th May 1971 at Glenelg South

Patrick GILLICK aged 28 and single married Bridget MCAULEY aged 22 and single on 24th February 1873 at the Church of the Immaculate Heart,  Georgetown.
Fathers = John MCGILLICK & Martin MCAULEY
Ref = Cla 94/605

Patrick GILLICK aged 54 and a widower married Catherine HILL aged 54 and single on 3rd Nov ember 1908 at St Patricks Church, Adelaide.
Fathers = John Gillick & Owen HILL

I think it is probably another of the many births in South Australia not registered. 

I wonder of the parish records of St Gabriels Catholic Church which was built at Cradock in 1880 would be in the Catholic Archives in Adelaide.
