Emma came to Kew, Melbourne Australia, in 1885 and died there in 1906 # 9616 (Digger)
Her father given as Thos. Williams, mother Sarah Jones
- she is buried with Thomas Jones d. 1905 and
Pheobe Jones nee Birch d. 1942

It looks like David has taken Emma's maiden name from the death record?
Rigg/Scholfield - Oldham/Rochdale
Hibbert/Moore - Hayfield/Saddleworth
Garstang/Kirby - Littleborough/Todmorden
Sutcliffe/Hill - Todmorden/Walsden
Young/Stevenson/Newbutt - Ticknall/Kegworth/Nutall/Hucknall/Bulwell
Woolley/Potter, Gaze/Parkins - Kegworth/Normanton-on-Soar/Wheathampstead/Harpenden
Smith/Green - Offley/Flamstead

Hello all
All I have is the IGI record of birth and spouse, and yes, there is the Aus. death record,
that definitely states that Emma Williams age 81 is buried along with my grandparents at Kew. I was kind of hoping that more conclusive evidence will come forward from these pages
but due to the complexities of researching the name Jones, I may not find out fully untill after I retire and can come to England and spend my kids inheritance.
It seems logical to me that these two people married at Liverpool, given the close proximity
- just across the water -   a bit of a trip overland and the fact that Robert Jones lived at Hollywell which is closer to Lancs. than Staffs.
Jones / Williams / Birch from N.Wales and Wolverhampton,..Musson / Wightman / Howard /  from Leicestershire and London
Connelly / Ord from Ireland and London

Hi David,

Sending for the marriage certificate would give Robert's occupation for confirmation.

Free BMD
Sep 1/4 1847
Robert Jones to Emma Williams (or others)
20 274 Liverpool

Perhaps Emma was living and working in Liverpool at that time but the Robert I found in 1851 was recorded as unmarried  ???

You will then be able to continue your research as you will, hopefully, then have Robert's father's name and occupation ;D

I can't see why people from North Wales would marry in Liverpool unless they had moved there prior to the marraige. That "trip across the water and a bit of a trip overland" takes well over an hour these days by car and would have taken a lot longer than that back in those days!

might help with the childrens' births and marraiges

Bradbury (Sedgeley, Bilston, Warrington)
Cooper (Sedgeley, Bilston)
Kilner/Kilmer (Leic, Notts)
Greenfield (Liverpool)
Holyland (Anywhere and everywhere, also Holiland Holliland Hollyland)
Pryce/Price (Welshpool, Liverpool)
Rawson (Leicester)
Upton (Desford, Leics)
Partrick (Vera and George, Leicester)
Marshall (Westmorland, Cheshire/Leicester)

If this is your Robert, had Emma been married before?  ???

MODIFIED I see you mention having found their marriage at Liverpool in 1847, do you have this certificate and if so could you post the details please? Did you obtain Emma's maiden name from this source too?

Thank you
maidmarion  :)

Hi.
The Gahagans mentioned are in my family tree.  I don't know of the relationship between your Robert Jones and the Gahagans other than they were all bricklayers. Mary Gahagan's maiden name was Lowe and she was born in Wheaton Ashton in Staffordshire - her younger brother is William Lowe, shown as a lodger here too.  John Gahagan was born in Ireland. John and Mary had previously been living in Bridgnorth, Shropshire.  In 1861 John and Mary were still in Wolverhampton at St Mary Street.
Cheers
Dave
