Annie,

There is a paying site which, however, has a free surname search at:
http://scripts.ireland.com/ancestor/index.cfm
The free search gives really interesting information about the origin and occurrence of a particular surname.

One set of my Gggparents - John STANTON/STAUNTON and Bridget DONOHUE - came to Australia from Co Galway in 1841 with their children including my Ggmother Julia.  Their ship sailed from Liverpool.  Unfortunately I've not been able to trace them in Co Galway.

Bridget's maiden name appears in Victorian records spelled variously as DONAHO, DONAHUE, DONAHAUGH, DONOGHUE, DONOHOE, DONOHUE, DONOUGHOE, and O'DONOGHUE.

Thank you Jap!

I'll try that site - the name is definitely Donehoo all the way back  -
it's weird -  because I have other names that have been spelt 10 different ways - but this one has stayed the same.... just can't find out what part of Ireland it's from...
you watch it will probably turn up scottish -     Annie

Hi Annie,

Here are a couple of sites that may be worth a look.
I hope I'm not suggesting a trail you have followed already
