Hello, I have just joined and noticed on the above site a question about Edwin F LEVOIR MANSFIELD living with Harry and Florence Mansfield.  Florence was Cordelia's sister and married Harry in 1893.  Don't know why Edwin should have included his uncle's surname or when he took his mother's married surname of WAY.  Any info appreciated.

The school admissions to Farringdon Primary School, Devon, show that Corelia was born on 11th March 1870 and was living in Perkins Village.

The 1939 Register has transcribed her birth year as 1879 but should be 1870. The birth day is the same but the month is April.

Edwin W Mansfield, guardian Richard Way, born 16th January 1894, was admitted to Rack Street Central School, Exeter, in 1904, together with two other Way children.

There is an Edwin Mansfield in the 1939 Register for the correct year but the day and month are different. Married Ida Harris in 1929.

Is it possible that he was not the son of Cordelia but of Florence and adopted by the Way family?
Alternatively, adopted by the Mansfields and then taken back by Cordelia when she married.

David

i am trying to reply re the above.  edwin LEVOIR WAY/MANSFIELD was always known by his family as edward WAY.  This is proving a big problem.  the info from david on thursday last suggested maybe he was the son of cordelia's sister but unless we get sight of his birth certificate we wont know for sure.  The name suggested for his wife whom he was supposed to have married in 1934 is definately not correct, but am unable to find out what it should be, if indeed he did get married.  Hope this makes sense.
