The location of the carpet factory, at the corner of Fort Street and Charlotte Street, is clearly shown on the large scale Ayr town plan, ordnance survey 1856. This is available online at the National Library of Scotland:-

Zoom into the map, looking for Station Road and Victoria Bridge. Just before the bridge, in a north westerly direction you will see Mill Street, and up there on the left adjacent to the tannery was the spinning mill.
