1. Arthur Robert Donnelly marriage to Isabella Robson around 1882 ( first child born October 1883 in Chefoo )
2. Marriage of Ivon Arthur Donnelly to Joan Katherine Power possibly in Shanghai around 1921 . Her father was James Otway Blennerhassett Power and he was witness to her first marriage also in Shanghai in 1914 . Joan was born in India - Secunderabad - in 1898 . Father was working for the railways in Tsientsin at time of her first marriage .

 I only  had a quick look at the index
There is a Joan Katherine Power marriage listed for 1919 China

 quite a few entries for China

You have to buy credits to view the actual entries

Yes I have - thats her first marriage to a Captain Ells  ( which has her father on it as witness). Havent found a second .

Hi Tony

I have just been looking at Captain Gordon Waterman Ells USA passport application which says 'and accompanied by my wife Joan Katherine Ells' - this passport application is stamped December 1922. This is for permission to sail in January 1923 so could the second marriage be later than you think.

Probably so but still doesn't show up in BMD . Not sure where else to look . Could be they just didn't bother to register a second marriage ! I found an interesting coincidence - Joan Kathrine's
's sister Margaret Beatrice got married the week before  my grandmother and grandfather in the same church and they are on the same page in the register !

Do you think they did marry?

I don't know where else to look, I have searched everything I have access to.

Yes they married otherwise she changed her name to Donnelly which I doubt.She is listed as Joan Donnelly in the records of the internees in the camp in Shanghai where the Japanese held non combatants during the war.Thanks for helping.

Ancestry has images of GW Ells' US passport application from December 1922, including a photo of him and his then wife Joan Katherine.
