Hi

A little difficult as there three Mary's married to Ralph Forster, 1849 -1850, Weardale, Teesdale area. However although I think to be certain you may need a birth certificate of one of the children to prove it, there was a marriage Weardale 1849 to Mary Addison.

In the 1851 census living with Ralph, Mary and Joseph is a son Jno Addison aged 5. Now whether Mary had been married before or Jno was born out of wedlock I'm not sure yet.

Evie, Thanks.

I have seen the 3 marriages and also lean towards the Addison marriage , one reason being that My wife (whose family this is) thinks there were Addisons in the distant family line.

Also confusion on 1851 census is Ralph in 2 places at once see
HO107 piece 2387 folio 621 page 11. it looks as if father Thomas has died ut the rest of the family are still together

I see what you mean and yet the Ralph living with his mother is down as unmarried :-\

Do you think we might have two different families here? I know the 1851 I was looking at was Foster but the places of birth were the same and he was also a lead miner. The age was out by 5 years not too unusual though

Just been looking at the index of Durham Records Online.

Ralph Forster baptised 1829 Middleside, Teesdale

Ralph Foster baptised 1825 Middleton in Teesdale, Teesdale

Ralph Foster baptised 1825 Hawkshead [Aukside?], Teesdale

The 1829 one only has a father called Thomas

I don't know what you think but they are two different Ralphs going by the 1841 census. The Ralph I was looking at in 1851 I believe although I could be wrong had a father called Ralph.

How did you come by the Ralph with parents as Thomas and Nancy as yours?

Evie, I was just typing the reply that I don't know if I now have the correct father in Thomas, I had taken it from the 1829 entry. but maybe it is the 1825.

What I do know working back,
John Thomas Forster b 1878 at Foggarthwaite, Eggleston father Ralph (farmer) mother Eliz Walton have the birth cert.

Ralph above b abt 1853 on 1891 census living at Stapleton Yorkshire, it may be from this Ralph b 1853 I have latched onto the wrong father.

Just noticed a clue on 1891 cenusu because Ralphs aunt Jane Forster (Spinster is staying with them b abt 1838 at Mickleton.
