1891 census reveals all, father is JOHN FORSTER (Foster) aged 68 born Middleton, sisters Jane and Adalina  all living with son Ralp Foster (note spelling) at Stapleton

So is this the family in 1841 belonging to your Ralph that married Mary Addison (possibly)

HO107; Piece 1247; Book: 7; Folio: 7; Page: 8; Line: 6

With parents Ralph and Jane. If so you need a marriage of Ralph born about 1801 from Stanhope according to the 1851, unfortunately Jane has died.

Evie, I think That I have been on the wrong line.

John Thomas Forster b 1878//  his father Ralph b abt 1853  // his father John born abt 1826.

All the other Ralphs/Thomas /Addison etc at the moment don't fit in

At the moment I am following the census to see who John married he is a widower on 1891/1881 and his 2 sisters are living in as housekeeper

Evie,

Following on from the line above ,John Thomas/Ralph/John

John's father IS Ralph b 1801 Stanhope wife Jane and Ralph's father MAYBE

John Foster who married Sarah Martindale 1801 Stanhope, (this is circumstantial, have not got a direct connection)

Have not got a wedding for Ralph B1801 and Jane, their 1st child Adalina born  abt 1823 at South Church or West Auckland, according to census

Are there any on line records for South Church to find the birth of Adalina abt 1823.

If you check out the Durham Place-name index http://nd.durham.gov.uk/recordoffice/dro.nsf/vwebplaces
you will see that South Church and West Auckland were both in the Parish of Auckland St Helen.

Durham Records Online (pay-per-view) has got the St Helen's Baptisms from 1813 to 1824.

Otherwise you could try browsing the Bishops Transcripts which also contain records from St Helen's. http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#p=waypoint;s=waypointsOnly;c=1309819;w=0
