Liz, you are a star  thank you so much

this has proved to me what I thought they might have come from Ireland  harder to trace than Scotland but at least I know now not to continue for some of them.

mind you Scotland records have given me lots of info strange how ages never seem to match any records think most of the time they thought of an age and said it!

now one question any idea how I find out how they got to Scotland????? ;D

thank you again  sandie

Hi Sandie,    If it's passenger lists or immigrations lists you mean, then there are none, they were'nt needed to come from Ireland to Scotland or vice versa.

Hi Sandie,  There's no Patrick Reip in 1851

Here are all the Reip in 1851

Census taken  St Andrews  567 enum dist 2 page 16

Anthony Reip age 25
Alice age 25
Mary Ann age 2

Again in 1861

Census taken Bridgeton  644/3  enum dist 108 page 15

Alice Reip age 44 born Ireland
Margaret age 13 born Glasgow
James age 9 born Glasgow
Catherine A age 7 born Glasgow

I should maybe mention that  in the 1861 census index for John and Bridget, the name was transcribed as Reip or Reid, so just a possibility that other Reips may be down as Reids.   Just a thought.

thanks a lot liz,

I have sometimes wondered about Reid  p& d's are easily mistaken..
have come across Anthony  he was in same trade as John snr a taylor but I cant connect them although I suspect they might be brothers.

Patrick was Johns dad so guess it was a long shot  bless you for looking
