Charles JOHNSON alias STEWARD
« on: Tuesday 23 March 10 17:01 GMT (UK) »
One of my ancestors was Henry Frecknall who was baptised in Upton by Southwell, Notts in 1824. He was illegitimate, the son of a Frances Frecknall. Ever since I discovered in Frances' father's will that she was the Widow of the late Charles Johnson alias Steward, I have wanted to know who he was. It is clear that Charles died before 1841, when the will was written. But since Frances appears with her maiden name in 1841, it seems they never married. I am guessing that Charles was the father of my ancestor Henry Frecknall.

I have been trying to find a burial for Charles without success. He should have died between 1820-1841. I have also been wondering why he would have used the alias. Perhaps he was illegitimate as well? I have tried to search the IGI for marriages between Johnson and Steward but not been able to.

Any ideas on how to progress with Charles?

Thanks,
Alexander
